Sept 8-12
Weekly Lesson Plans September 8th-12th
Monday- Students will have 5 minutes to look over their Chapter 2 vocab before the vocab quiz. Then students will have the rest of the period to work on their Chapter 2 Study Guide that is due Wednesday.
Tuesday- Students will watch a video about the Greatest Discoveries in Chemistry.
Wednesday- Students will trade and grade their Chapter 2 Study Guide and play the Game Show Review.
Thursday- Students will take the Chapter 2 Test. Extra Credit will be available after the test.
Friday- (half day) Students will participate in the activity about a Mystery Mixture.

Tuesday- BR# 6 1. What is matter? 2. How can you classify matter? Students took a pretest over Chapter 2 about matter. Students took notes and had a discussion over Chapter 2 Section 1 about Matter. Homework: Classifying Matter worksheet and Concept Review Worksheet.
Wednesday- BR# 7 Look at Figure 1 on page 51, How many physical properties can you describe for the 3 objects in Figure 1? Students took notes and had a discussion over Chapter 2 S.2 about Physical and Chemical Properties. Homework: Properties of Matter worksheet (both sides) and Interpreting Bar Graphs and Pie Charts worksheet.
Thursday- BR# 8 Read " Aerogel" on pg. 53. Answer Questions 1 and 2 in your journal. I will shoe students two clips about Aerogel so they can see some of its physical and chemical properties. Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 2 S.3 about Physical and Chemical Changes. Homework: Materials to use for a Bicycle worksheet.
Friday- Density Lab. Students will be figuring out the density of six different cubes. Based on the cube's density, students will be deciding what material each cube is made of.

We will review how to convert measurements and students will have time in class to work on their sheet. Homework: Metric conversion practice problems

Weekly Lessons August 18th-22th
Monday- I will check that students have a binder and a journal just for my class for 10 points. Students will participate in a Peanut Lab in which they will be describing, measuring, weighing, and drawing a peanut that they choose out of a bowl. The goal is to help students understand that when doing lab work they need to be very specific, descriptive, and accurate. Students will fill out a following directions sheet to help them understand the importance of reading and following all directions. Students will fill out a get to know you sheet and I will share with the students some of my background and interests. Students will be assigned a Physical Science textbook. Reminder: Parent signature sheet is due on Tuesday the 19st.

I will explain to students that when they write their bellringers in their journal, they need to always put the Bellringer number, write the question/s or the title for the selection that they have to read, and an answer to the question/s. Homework: Chapter 1 Vocab on page 35, there are 15 words that need to be defined. due Wednesday.

Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 1 S.2 The Way Science Works. I will explain how to do metric conversions with the students and go over several examples. Thursday- I will collect the Metric Conversion Worksheet. BR #3 Read "How the Gateway Arch was Built" on page 29. Answer both questions in your journal. Students will take notes and have a discussion over Chapter 1 S.3 Organizing Data. I will explain to the students how to calculate scientific notation and significant figures and give examples. Homework: Concept Review: Organizing Data.

Thursday- Students will get an assigned seat. I will go over the class syllabus (this is posted on the right side if you want to check it out and see what the students will be learning and doing this year).
Extra Credit: bring in 2 kleenex boxes for 10pts any time starting Friday the 15th until Friday the 29th.
Homework: Get a notebook (journal) and a 3 ring binder just for my class. I will check that you have both for 10 points on Monday the 18th. If students cannot get these supplies they need to talk to me before class on Monday (I have extras for those who cannot get them).
Friday- I will go over classroom rules with the students (also posted on the right). I will also be going over how to write a lab report, and how to outline a chapter. Students will get sheets for all of these topics and they will be expected to keep all of them in their binder.
Homework: Students will get a parent signature sheet. Their second assignment is to share my classroom rules with you and have you sign the sheet stating that you both have read and understand my rules and expectations. The sheet is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday the 19th for 10 points.

Thursday- Students will watch Bill Nye Light and then work on a Physics Review.
Friday- Students will watch Bill Nye Energy to review some concepts from Chapter 13. Then students will continue to work on their Physics Review.

Friday- BR#50 Observe the mouse trap game and write down three objects and tell me what simple machines they are. Students will learn about Rube Goldberg and Rube Goldberg machines. Homework: Rube Goldberg sheet.

The power output lab will make students calculate how much work and power they use to go up the stairs slow vs. fast.

Monday- Students have the opportunity to participate in a centripetal acceleration demo. Then students are working on a Chapter 11 Review packet to help review all of the key concepts from Chapter 11.
Tuesday- Students will complete the Bubble Gum Lab. Students will be working with a partner to determine what their average chomp speed is for five trials and then for one minute.
Wednesday-Students will complete the Reaction Time Lab. They will calculate reaction time by using falling distance data, compare reaction times measured by using a stopwatch with reaction times calculated from falling distance data, and evaluate the methods used to determine reaction time in the experiment.
Thursday- Students have the entire class period to work on their Chapter 11 Study Guide that reviews Motion, Acceleration, and Fundamental Forces.

Wednesday- BR # 40 1. Olivia can pitch a baseball a distance of 50m in 2s. How fast is her pitch? 2. How long does it take a bird to fly 200km if it travels ar a speed of 50km/h? 3. A person in a kayak paddles down river at a average speed of 15km/h. After 3.25 hours, how far have they traveled? Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 11 S.2. Homework: Acceleration Practice Problems.

Tuesday- BR # 39 1. Logan rode his bike 60km in 4 hours. How fast was he going? 2. Matt rode his bike 90km in 6 hours. How fast was he going? 3. Who was the fastest bike rider? Students will do the Measuring Speed Lab and then work on their homework- speed, distance, and time problems.
Wednesday- BR # 40 1. Olivia can pitch a baseball a distance of 50m in 2s. How fast is her pitch? 2. How long does it take a bird to fly 200km if it travels ar a speed of 50km/h? 3. A person in a kayak paddles down river at a average speed of 15km/h. After 3.25 hours, how far have they traveled? Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 11 S.2. Students outline Chapter 22 S.3 about Weather and Climate. The section starts on pg. 789. Outline is due on Tuesday. Students need to study their vocab for the quiz on Wednesday. Their vocab sheet is due Wednesday.
Tuesday- Students will be participating in a Prehistoric Climate Activity. Students will be looking at pictures of real leaf fossils and using them to figure out the climate. The activity is all done in class. If a student does not finish it is due on Wednesday. Students need to study their vocab for the quiz on Wednesday. Their vocab sheet is due Wednesday.

Monday- Students will be starting the rock lab. This lab will last for four days and students will be figuring out several physical properties of both rocks and minerals. Students will list the following for 40 samples, name, rock type, color, luster, cleavage or fracture, magnetic, uses, and hardness. Students will focus on rocks 1-10 today.
Tuesday- Students are continuing the rock lab focusing on rocks 11-20.
Wednesday- Students are continuing the rock lab focusing on rocks 21-30. Students will be identifying the igneous rocks as intrusive or extrusive and what kind of texture it has. They will be identifying the sedimentary rocks by how they formed chemical or clastic.
Thursday-Students are continuing the rock lab focusing on rocks 31-40. Students will be identifying the sedimentary rocks by how they formed chemical or clastic and the metamorphic rocks as foliated or nonfoliated.

Important : If students missed any lab days this week, they need to talk to me about when they are available to make up their lab. They can come in any school day before school, during lunch, after school, or during their study hall depending on the hour.

Tuesday- BR #28 What are the physical environments that the Earth is divided into? Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 Earth as a system/Earth's interior. Students will watch a 7 minute video clip called "Inside our planet". Homework: Vocab from Monday is due on Wednesday.
Wednesday-Students will do a 10 minute opening activity about Pangea. Students will take notes and have discussion over Ch 21 Earth's physical layers/Plate tectonics. Students will watch a 11 minute video clip about "Exploring Earth". Homework: Worksheet Drilling into the Earth

Friday- Students watched a clip about Diane Fossey because Thursday would have been her 82nd Birthday. We discussed her contribution to the study of primates. Students were told that they can bring in old cell phones that they no longer use for extra credit. 1 phone is worth 15pts, 2 phones is worth 30 points. Students are encouraged to bring in as many as possible to help the school in a nation wide challenge to help prevent the destruction of the Congo Basin by recycling materials found in cell phones.
