Feb 24-28

Weekly Lesson Plans February 24th-28th

Monday- Chapter 21 Test.  Extra Credit will be available after the test, due Tuesday.

Tuesday- BR # 35 1. Which layer of the atmosphere is the lowest? 2. Which layer of the atmosphere is the farthest away? 3. Which layer of the atmosphere is the coldest?  Students will take notes over Chapter 22 S.1 Characteristics of the Atmosphere.  Homework: Chapter 21 S.1 Review Questions pg. 780 #1-7

Wednesday- Students will have a 10 question quiz over the main points of the Chapter 21 S.1 notes.  Then students will participate in an activity where they will be graphing temperatures of the atmosphere and dividing their graph into the main parts of the atmosphere.  Homework: Finish graph/questions

Thursday- BR #36 Read Harnessing the Wind pg. 788 answer question 2 in your journal.  Students will watch a short clip about how wind energy affects bats.  Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 22 S.2 Water and Wind. Homework: Chapter 22 S.2 Review Questions pg. 787 #1-7.

Friday- Students are going to participate in the Greenhouse Effect Lab.  They will be collecting data in a table and then using that table to create a graph. Lab due Monday. While students were working on collecting data for their lab they defined the Chapter 22 Vocab words (15 words) pg. 773.

Feb 18-21

Weekly Lesson Plans February 17th-21st

Monday- No School

Tuesday- BR#34 1. What is erosion? 2. How does wind cause erosion? 3. How does weather cause erosion? 4. How does ice cause erosion? Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 S.4 about Weathering and Erosion. Homework: Chapter 21 S.4 Questions pg. 761 #1-9.

Wednesday- Students have the entire period to work on their Chapter 21 Study Guide. Due Friday!

Thursday- Students will review their knowledge form Chapter 21 by watching Raging Planet Grand Canyon.

Friday- Students will trade and grade their Chapter 21 Study Guides and play the game show review. Chapter 21 Test is on Monday February 24th!

Feb 10-14

Weekly Lesson Plans February 10th-14th

Monday- Students will be starting the rock lab.  This lab will last for four days and students will be figuring out several physical properties of both rocks and minerals.  Students will list the following for 40 samples, name, rock type, color, luster, cleavage or fracture, magnetic, uses, and hardness. Students will focus on rocks 1-10 today.

Tuesday- Students are continuing the rock lab focusing on rocks 11-20.

Wednesday- Students are continuing the rock lab focusing on rocks 21-30. Students will be identifying the igneous rocks as intrusive or extrusive and what kind of texture it has. They will be identifying the sedimentary rocks by how they formed chemical or clastic.

Thursday-Students are continuing the rock lab focusing on rocks 31-40. Students will be identifying the sedimentary rocks by how they formed chemical or clastic and the metamorphic rocks as foliated or nonfoliated.

Friday- Half Day! Students will be answering some analysis questions about the rock lab.

Important : If students missed any lab days this week, they need to talk to me about when they are available to make up their lab. They can come in any school day before school, during lunch, after school, or during their study hall depending on the hour.

Feb 3-7

Weekly Lesson Plans February 3rd-7th

Monday- BR#32 Read "What are rocks good for?" pg. 755. Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 S.3 Minerals.  Homework: Students will read an article about Hydrothermal Vent Bio-communities and answer questions.

Tuesday- BR#33 1. How would you characterize a mineral? 2. List as many characteristics as you can. Students will have discussion and take notes over Chapter 21 S.3 Mineral Physical Properties and Igneous Rocks.  Homework: Students will read an article about Asbestos and answer the questions.

Wednesday- Snow Day

Thursday- Hours 1-5 will catch up on finishing any notes from packets #6, 7, and 8. Then they will watch part of the National Geographic Documentary about Yellowstone National Park Supervolcano http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACO-sNn9KnU&list=HL1391712033&feature=mh_lolz

Hours 7 and 8 will do the lesson from Tuesday since school was let out early due to snow.

Friday- Students will watch a video clip about rocks of ages. Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 S.3 Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rocks. Homework: Students will read an article about Seafloor sediments and answer the questions.
