WednesdayChapter 21 Vocab Quiz. Students will finish the Smash Lab video.

Thursday- Students will participate and complete a lab a bout finding the epicenter of an earthquake.  They will calculate the distance from surrounding seismometers to an earthquake's epicenter, find the location of the epicenter, and explain the relationship between seismic waves and the location of the epicenter.

Friday- BR#31 Read Volcanoes and Humans pg. 747 answer question #1. Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 S.2 Volcanoes. Homework: Ch 21 S.2 Review Questions #1-8 pg.746

WednesdayBr#30 1. What is the Richter Scale? 2. What is the greatest magnitude on the Richter Scale? 3. Where would an earthquake of this magnitude be felt? Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 S.2 Earthquakes.  Homework: Worksheet Earthquakes East of the Rockies.

Friday- Students will watch the Smash Lab video about scientists trying to create ways to make houses more earthquake proof.

Weekly Lesson Plans January 13th-18th 2014

Monday- BR#27 1. What is geology? 2. List 4 things geologists study.  Students will watch a 2 minute video clip called "What is Geology?".  Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 Planet Earth/Intro to Geology. Homework: Chapter 21 vocab pg. 765 21 words.  Vocab is due on Wednesday.

Tuesday- BR #28 What are the physical environments that the Earth is divided into?  Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 Earth as a system/Earth's interior.  Students will watch a 7  minute video clip called "Inside our planet". Homework: Vocab from Monday is due on Wednesday.

Wednesday-Students will do a 10 minute opening activity about Pangea.  Students will take notes and have discussion over Ch 21 Earth's physical layers/Plate tectonics.  Students will watch a 11 minute video clip about "Exploring Earth".  Homework: Worksheet Drilling into the Earth

Thursday- BR #29 List the three layers of the Earth and their temperatures.  Students will take notes and have discussion over Chapter 21 Plate Tectonics.  Homework: Chapter 21 S.1 Review pg. 737 #1-8.

Friday- Students watched a clip about Diane Fossey because Thursday would have been her 82nd Birthday.  We discussed her contribution to the study of primates.  Students were told that they can bring in old cell phones that they no longer use for extra credit. 1 phone is worth 15pts, 2 phones is worth 30 points.  Students are encouraged to bring in as many as possible to help the school in a nation wide challenge to help prevent the destruction of the Congo Basin by recycling materials found in cell phones.
